New Day Masonic Lodge No. 655 History

New Day Masonic Lodge No. 655 began as a study club in 2010. The study club was unofficially known as the “9 Brothers” and was formed by Brother Dwayne Smith, Brother Satari Shaw, Brother Randal Davis, Brother Calvin Thomas, Brother Derek McKay, Brother Jerry Cotton, Brother Jevon Hawkins, Brother Thaddeus Clark, and Brother Keith Carruth. Brother Jason Pruitt later joined the group.

The “9 Brothers” shared a mutual vision of expanding the tenets of Freemasonry — Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth — throughout the greater Grand Prairie, Texas area. Over time, the brothers’ interest in chartering a new lodge continued to grow. From that vision, the name “New Day” was born.

The brothers settled on the name “New Day” for several reasons, but one definition stood out most: “being other than the former or old.” With that meaning in mind, the brothers understood that if the dream of starting a new lodge was going to become reality, they had to become what they envisioned Freemasonry should be and look like.

In the year of our Lord two thousand and eleven, a petition was submitted to the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Master of Texas, the Honorable Wilbert M. Curtis, requesting a dispensation to form New Day Masonic Lodge in the City of Grand Prairie, Texas. In May of that year, the petition was granted, marking the birth of New Day Masonic Lodge U.D.

The brothers of New Day Masonic Lodge adopted the motto inspired by the great Indian philosopher Mahatma Gandhi: “We must become the change we want to see.” With this guiding principle, the brothers set out to establish a lasting legacy in the City of Grand Prairie and within the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas.

The Honorable Wilbert M. Curtis appointed the following brothers to serve as officers while the lodge operated under dispensation:

Worshipful Master: Brother Calvin Thomas
Senior Warden: Brother Satari Shaw
Junior Warden: Brother Dwayne Smith
Secretary: Brother Randal Davis
Treasurer: Brother Jevon Hawkins
Senior Deacon: Brother Derrick McKay
Junior Deacon: Brother Thaddeus Clark
Chaplain: Brother Keith Carruth
Marshal: Brother Jerry Cotton
Tyler: Brother Jason Pruitt

From its inception, New Day Masonic Lodge U.D. set out with a rigorous goal of completing every task placed before it, while also establishing new goals and standards for future members to follow.

On the 23rd day of June 2012, during the Annual Grand Session, the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas approved the charter of the lodge. With that approval, New Day Masonic Lodge U.D. officially became New Day Masonic Lodge No. 655.
